Oof, so I had some issues with the mp3 that should be sorted now. This was one of those “really good until it wasn’t anymore” shows. I think I’m ok with saying the wheels sort of fell off towards the end so if you only listened to the first 90 minutes (about the time I stop playing garage) you should be set.

Share on FacebookThis signals the end of Music for Astronauts for 2011. After 6 months of being out of town, then back, then gone again, then big group shows it was nice to finish things off a) doing a solo set like I used to do and b) feeling completely alight for it.
You’re always supposed to finish strong and I hope for a year that had me going from feeling not super sure about doing the show anymore I’m definitely as excited as I’ve ever been about it and I feel like that translated in to “strong” for this mix. I think the space and sound that Music for Astronauts occupies will definitely shift and evolve as (I like to think) it has in the coming year but for now this is how we closed things out for 2011.
As always please enjoy. This one is out to everyone who downloaded and discovered MfA in the past 12 months.

Share on FacebookBefore I get sucked into another day of work where I don’t get the show posted I’m going to…get the show posted!
Last week was pure jokes. At the very last minute I got word that the DJ before MfA wasn’t going to be on so I’d be able to start early if I wanted. I did the only rational thing at that point and rallied the troops for another 4 hour special. This time it was me, DJAO, 214 and James from qp in the mix. Fewer technicals this time, the whole show recorded and we had an awesome time as usual. The mp3 itself is broken up into 3 parts so sorry for that. I suppose I could have stitched them together but I don’t know how much people really want a 4 hr. long mp3.
The downside is that I don’t have full tracklists from everyone…ok James was the only one to get me one but there are still a number of the tunes that get called out during the show. These long sessions are definitely some of my favorites so I’m hoping we can do this semi-regularly in the coming year.
There will be one more MfA before the end of the year so make sure to tune in for that on the 29th.

Share on FacebookTwo full hours, all vinyl b2b with James of qp fame (astute listeners would remember that he tore up the show a month back.) It’s funny to think that when I first started Music for Astronauts most everything that I played was on wax and now it’s a bit of a novelty. I will never stop getting excited about thumbing through my crates that much is for sure.
If you tuned in last night you would have noticed some craziness happening on one of the decks. The tonearm on my right deck is dying, this set may have been it’s last stand, and so the L/R channels weren’t balanced at all. Apologies for that.
The one think I absolutely do not miss about doing vinyl sets is having to go back and work out the tracklist. Thankfully James and I had the presence of mind to keep up with it as we went. Rather than type out the list itself I decided instead to scan the page we used and post it. It sort of reminds me of a tracklist you’d see up front on stage when a band is playing live.
This show was a ton of fun and a great send off for my vacation next week. There won’t be a Music for Astronauts to start off December but the slot will be covered by Car Crash Set Radio so make sure to tune in for that.

Share on FacebookAfter having missed a couple shows recently Music for Astronauts was finally back in a big way last night. James, one half of qp was on deck and brought everything. If you don’t believe take a look at the tracklist below. A huge set that hit on pretty much all points.
It was good to be back on air again, I’m looking forward to getting back on a regular schedule. As always thanks to everyone for their words of support for the show last night, it means a lot.
