Probably isn’t too much of a blog anymore.  I went back and forth for a while on what to do with the site, since updating it simply to post the podcast is a bit more work than it’s worth.

To that end this will be the last post here.  Music for Astronauts is still going strong but in new directions.  To get connected use any of the following methods.

This week’s show went out to the great people of Washington state who passed Initiative 502 legalizing the sale and consumption of cannabis starting on, you guessed it December 6th, so of course we had to celebrate appropriately.  That meant inviting a bunch of friends over, getting a guest DJ to play alongside and make it a session to remember.  Weaver who has been on the show in the past was the guest tonight so we did a bit of a b2b session and I started things off digging through my crates and went in all vinyl.  Reasons upon reasons upon reasons to jump on the download for this one.

Normally I’d put the tracklist here but with the two of us, plus me putting my vinyl away before writing the list down it’s not going to happen for this show so my apologies there.

The Happy Thanksgiving edition of MfA as it were.

I can’t remember ever doing my show on US Thanksgiving and despite the ultra long day thrown together with much food and drink made it rough getting my head set before the show.  Thankfully (boom, worked it in somewhere) though I didn’t enter into a food coma during the show and everything turned out story book.  Really enjoyed this set; definitely covered a fair bit of ground with the new tunes plus a bit of well tred ground toward the end.

Out to everyone who was able to lock in live, the next show is going to be one for the books so do not miss.  December 6th at the usual.  More info will get posted up here in the next couple days.

Hah I just realized this show was on 10.11.12, how auspicious.  In case you didn’t notice I swapped show weeks on sub.fm which explains the couple weeks since the last one.  I’m going to also be travelling on the date of the next show so this’ll be it for MfA this month.

Some great words from DFRNT.

If you don’t already read Sitting Ovation on the regular now would be a good time to pick it up.  In the latest  update DFRNT talks about “the scene” and the glass ceiling that anyone trying to come in to it faces.  There’s a lot in here that I see and for my own part (as someone who doesn’t produce at all) had to make peace with a long time ago.  One part that I do differ a bit on is that I would argue that the obstacle of hype has really always been but with the removal of many of the old roadblocks build into the music distribution structure it’s become much more pronounced.

Either way, go have a read it’s worth a few minutes.

Wow looking over last night’s tracklist and I think I missed playing about a third of the new tunes I had in store.  I’m really not sure how that happened, though I’ll bet that me tossing loads of stuff I haven’t heard/played in a bit probably has something to do with it.  No regrets though, cause Coki – All of a Sudden is a scorcher.

That being said if you look through through the tracklist and find yourself wondering where the goods are at, I suggest going straight to the middle and listenign to Wayfarer – Fall of the Zulu because oh my days.

Music for Astronauts 06.28.12

There are some weeks that when Thursday rolls around, I’ve got things all planed out for the show, I’m feelin’ good and really can’t wait to broadcast.  I guess that’s not to imply that there are times where I’m simply dreading having to play for two hours but after almost 3 years of doing the show, for better or worse, I can usually gauge how the mix will go down by how I’m feeling just before I start the show.

I suppose you can probably gauge where this is going.  Thursday morning found me ready ready and stoke to do the show and after a day of running around and general busyness right before the show I just needed some time to chill out and collect myself before jumping in.  For something I’ve done so many times, that feeling I have right before I start when I know I’m mentally not quite set, feels like I’m at the start line of a marathon and I haven’t been able to stretch out and get warmed up.

So there we go, a bit of insight to the goings on when you do a weekly spot on a radio show.  Rain or shine, tired or not when 8:00 PM rolls around it’s time to roll up the sleeves and get to work.
